Frequently Asked Questions
Do you accept insurance?
At this time I do not accept insurance. My process is designed to meet the needs of clients and often insurance companies require a diagnosis and inhibit our ability to do long-term and necessary work together.
While I don’t accept insurance, many insurance plans will reimburse clients either fully or partially for therapy sessions. Call your provider and check your out-of-network (OON) benefits. I can create superbills for you to be reimbursed by your insurance company.
The rates for my sessions are on a sliding scale to fit the needs of my clients. Sessions range from $80-160. Additionally, in a commitment to mental health accessibility for everyone, 15% of my clients are pro bono or at a lower rate than listed. If you need further assistance, please reach out and we can discuss my available spots.
How much are sessions?
I do a sliding scale to meet the needs of clients at varying income, 50 minute sessions range from $80-160.
In a commitment for mental health accessibility, 15% of my clients are pro-bono or at a lower rate than the above listed. If you need mental health resources but cannot afford my rates, reach out and we can discuss my available openings at a lower rate.
How long is a session and how often will I see you?
One session is typically 50 minutes. How often we see each other depends on your needs and goals. I keep a schedule of the same day and time weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly so you can depend on the repeating time on your calendar. In some instances, clients require more intensive sessions that occur over a longer span of time, or happen with more frequency such as twice weekly. We will discuss your needs in our consultation meeting, and we will continue to discuss your needs over time.
What forms of payment will you accept?
I accept all major credit cards and debit cards. When our work begins, I will keep your card on file and your card will be charged the day of your session.
What can I expect in these appointments?
The first 1-3 sessions we get to know each other. In these sessions, I’ll ask questions that help you paint a picture of the scope of your life for me, and what brought you into therapy. The therapeutic relationship is important to the process, and during this phase, you only share what you are comfortable with sharing. Do not feel like you have to share every detail of your biggest traumas, especially in the first few sessions. We will take it at your pace. In these first few sessions, you can also use this time to understand if my style feels right for you. Together, we’ll explore your goals and think through what we call a treatment plan. A treatment plan is essentially a road map that we create together to help you get where you want to go. The treatment plan will begin at session 3-4. Time to meet treatment goals vary on the goals themselves. Once your treatment plan goals have been met, we will revisit the roadmap together and decide if we want to do more work together, or if you’d like to pause or end therapy. It is of the utmost importance that you feel confident and comfortable in our relationship. Authenticity and open communication are values I hold dear, and I encourage you to tell me what is and is not working. If I’m not the right therapist for you, I’ll give you a list of trusted colleagues to try instead.
How long will I need to attend therapy?
Clients with specific goals may stay in therapy for 2-3 months with weekly sessions, while others keep therapy as part of their lives for years. This depends on you and your goals. Sometimes we will address one issue and our work will commence, other times we may begin with one issue and uncover other events or experiences that need tending to. Sometimes one life event brings a client to therapy, and other events or needs arise. My method is to tailor the therapeutic experience to your needs and decide together when the relationship should pause or end.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. What you say in the therapy room stays in the therapy room. A core code of ethics is confidentiality, meaning that your information is safe according to both ethics and HIPPA compliance. You can repeat anything I say in therapy, but I cannot repeat any information you share. The “limits of confidentiality” are in an event that I have evidence you are in harm’s way, if there is evidence to support that you may harm yourself, that you may harm other people. Additionally, I am a mandated reporter and if in therapy you report child or elder abuse/neglect I will have to report these instances. In most cases, I will discuss my intent to act with the client prior to reporting.
What if I see you in public?
For the confidentiality of the client, I will never approach a client in public. How you act is up to you, you can simply ignore me. Or I welcome a wave or hello, but won’t be able to discuss any details of your therapeutic process with you in public.
Do you do text therapy?
No. I remain accessible to my clients in case of an emergency but am not always available quickly and will provide emergency helpline numbers. My relationship with my phone is limited and is not a reflection of my care for my clients. While I am committed to answering text messages within 24 hours, I have limited availability digitally. In the event of a crisis, I can be available for an emergency session as needed.
If I kind of know you, can we still do therapy?
For any client, we will discuss potential connections we are aware of in the consultation and how that may conflict with our work. If what is deemed a “dual relationship” (which is that our personal lives may be too connected for the therapeutic process) I will recommend other therapists I trust as options for your care.
